MCC Ministry Covenant

As MCC reaches out to impact the lives of believers, we as leaders are called to a higher standard of living in accordance with God's Holy Word. Our actions as leaders will directly influence the lives of those God places into our care. It is good to know what is expected before we get involved, rather than being surprised down the road. We have taken a great deal of time to map out expectations for our leaders. Please read through this document carefully and mark "Agree" honestly.

Introduction

Thank you for your interest in serving with MCC! There are a few things we wanted you to know about our leader positions in ministry. First, know that as a Leader in ministry, you’re in a leadership position, and others will watch what you say and watch what you do closely. We think that’s great! You should be a role model for all believers. As a role model, your lifestyle is important to us. We want to make sure who you are all week is who you are on Sunday or anytime we meet. There are several issues that are most important to us, so we’ll go into more detail about them in order to ensure that we’re all on the same page.

Regarding Your Faith

We believe that Leaders help others take steps closer to Christ. Others are watching you; your words, choices, and your relationship with God will be carefully observed and replicated by the ones that you influence. While we don’t expect you to be perfect by any means, we do expect you to be striving to make wise decisions and glorify God with your life and choices, you have made a decision to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life, and to be striving to look more like Jesus every day. Leaders who embrace a lifestyle that does not reveal an active and maturing faith may be asked not to serve for the following reasons:

- If you are not living a life that is striving to reflect Jesus and God’s Word.
- If you are not seeking out ways to grow in your faith either through weekend  worship services, small groups or classes as well as personal study and prayer.
- If you cannot easily communicate our MCC identity, mission and vision to others  while having an understanding of both.
- If you do not uphold or believe the MCC Statement of Faith (https://tinyurl.com/mcc-faith)
- If you are experiencing a life crisis or change it may require you to take a temporary break from serving (such as new job, health issues, divorce, etc.)

Regarding Sexual Behavior

We believe that sex was created by God as an expression of intimacy between one man and one woman within the context of marriage.  Leaders who embrace a lifestyle that contradicts this teaching will find themselves having to pretend to be something they’re not and believe something they don’t.  To prevent you from a potentially awkward situation, we may ask you not to serve for the following reasons:

- If you are involved in a sexual relationship and not married.
- If you are currently living with someone of the opposite sex and you are not married.
- If you are married and are currently involved in a sexual relationship outside of your marriage.
- If you are pursuing a same-sex relationship.

Regarding Substance Behavior

If you have a history of alcohol or drug abuse, this might be something God uses in a positive way to impact the future of the next generation.  We’d love to talk with you further about your story and how it can impact the children/students in our ministry.  We have a few guidelines that will determine your Leader placement, and a few reasons we may ask you not to serve at this time:

- If you have been arrested for or convicted of an alcohol or drug-related offense in the past twelve months.
- If you are currently being treated for alcohol or drug abuse.
- If you have used any illegal substance in the past twelve months.
- If consuming alcohol to the point of being unable to drive legally is a regular part of your lifestyle.

Regarding Social Behavior

As you get to know the people you serve, others will visit you on social media. People will ask to follow you through those platforms. We think social media can be a great way to connect with others during the week! However, they’ll also be able to see everything you post publicly. Please leverage your social media in a positive way. Please be mindful of these guidelines, and we may ask you not to serve for the following reasons:

- If you use inappropriate language on a regular basis.
- If you post pictures of yourself in revealing clothes.
- If you use your social media in a negative way.
- If you post pictures of yourself violating any of these covenant expectations including substance abuse.
